Dog Coalition

Los Angeles

Formerly Foster for Life

We are a group of volunteers and rescuers combining our skills to help people foster (and adopt) LA shelter dogs!

Our beginning

We first began our journey as Foster For Life: a foster support program for folks fostering directly from the shelter led by rescuers and volunteers. In the first 2 years we helped over 150 dogs out of overcrowded shelters engaging more than 75 foster families.

We are still focused on helping Angelenos foster (and adopt) LA city shelter dogs, but as our vision for the program has evolved, we updated our name to Dog Coalition Los Angeles (DCLA).

Why foster with us?

DCLA is entirely run by volunteers dedicated to supporting fostering through LA City shelters. We are on the frontlines of a growing shelter crisis and remain committed to improving the lives of dogs while they are in the shelter and helping them make a safe exit to find their forever families.

How to get involved

Foster

DCLA fosters have access to support calls, leash training classes, adoption guidance and promotion, and an incredible community of fosters and volunteers to assist with each foster's journey.

Adopt

The goal for every dog is to find their forever family through adoption. When a dog is adopted from the program, a new space opens up for another deserving dog to transition from shelter to foster.

Donate

Thank you! Tax-deductible donations to our program help provide basic supplies like food, leashes, collars, and crates and cover emergency medical and behavioral costs.

Our mission

Dog Coalition Los Angeles (DCLA) is devoted to the well-being of dogs and their human companions by purposefully matching shelter dogs and their most compatible humans.

With a hands-on approach, we are committed to the transformation of each dog, while cultivating an enduring foster and adoption culture that shapes the future of sheltering and animal welfare reform.
